The 2218 House. It gets its roots from the timeless woodwork and detailing of the craftsman but looks toward the future with its minimalist restrain.

The house is about 3100sf, 5 bedrooms, 3 baths, playroom and dining.  The house is sited with a south entry and has large porches and overhangs to block the hot southern sun. The north walls of the house have large expanses of glass to let in daylight. The house is very open and nearly every room is flooded with natural light. The travel paths in the house lead to windows or glass doors with views to the surrounding landscape. There are just a few materials used; concrete, glass, brick and cedar, all chosen for their texture. The brick and cedar are rough, the glass and concrete smooth.

The first floor's living, dining, kitchen and playroom are all sealed concrete, perfect for cleaning up those messy art projects. The kitchen cabinets are gray walnut and birch stained to a black brown. The kitchen includes a 14' long granite topped island and a breakfast nook. Stainless appliances finish off the kitchen. The first floor spaces flow from one to another easily.

Upstairs the master suite is adorned with dark oak floors, slate tile, repose gray walls and views to the tree canopy. It's located close to the children's bedrooms, laundry, office and craft areas. The colors, cabinets and materials are used throughout the house to carry the minimalist theme and unify the space. Every little nook and cranny was used; storage under the stair for toys, seats and pillows at the window for a good book. The design is about efficiency and simplicity.

The landscaping follows the minimalist lead with only a few plants situated along a longitudinal axis leading to a live oak tree. The tree centers on the main entrance window as the focal point and a beautifully framed view. Of course the landscape includes ample lawn for the children to romp and play.

The Bozeman Renovation is an overhaul to a traditional craftsman. The house is 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a craft room coming in at 3000sf.  The craftsman detailing was not originally followed through on this house so the current owner wanted to bring the house to its roots. So we did, all the way to the studs and foundation. The entire first floor was reconfigured resizing an odd shaped living room, adding a craft room and eating space in the kitchen. The bathrooms were cleared out to make way for new showers, tubs and vanities. The whole house received new trim worthy of the craftsman detailing it hails from.  The house is a study of grays and whites.  The walls are all complimenting shades of gray and the white comes from abundant wood trim, glazed subway tile in the kitchen and carrara marble in the bathroom. 

The Pilgrim Lake House sits on a large lake lot with an expansive view of the lake.  Its 4 bed rooms, 4 baths, study and gameroom make up the 3500sf.  Almost every room in the house has a view of the lake. The highlight of the house is the central dining room.  The dining room was located at the center of the house just inside the entry with a full wall of glass overlooking the lake.  The lake side of the house was made for entertaining with 1500sf of covered outdoor living.  The master suite is angled just so to catch the miles of lake view framed by the windows. The upstairs bedroom has a Juliet balcony for viewing the lake.

The Savell Residence sits on a wide open 12 acres with huge Texas sized views. The owners love the quality and craftsmanship of the craftsman style so we applied that style to their program. The house is 4500sf and has 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a home office, craft room, game room and home theatre.  The plan is open and simple with a large foyer and grand stair at the entry.  The living spaces are open with a large kitchen, dining and breakfast nook. The house is sited facing south with large porches to shade the hot southern sun. The north wall includes an abundance of windows to let in soft northern light. The house was designed with daylighting strategies to reduce electricity costs. Just a few materials were used inside and out to keep the design simple; painted siding and trim along with dark stained wood. The kitchen is outfitted with painted and stained cabinets, granite counters and stainless appliances. Staying true to the craftsman roots the house is full of beautiful woodwork; beamed ceilings, wainscoting, large bases, window trim, window seats and cased openings.

Spring Branch Community Health Center was expanding their services to new communities and needed creative and cost effective design and construction ideas to match their program.  The project included a complete renovation of an underutilized building.  3000 square feet was added to provide for the clinic's medical program that included Family Medicine, Pediatric Services, Behavioral Health, Women’s Health and a Laboratory.  The building was also designed to host Community Education events.  The site included a growing garden wall and meditation garden.

The Dorsey House sits on a quite tree lined 2.5 acres.  It's 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and an office outfit for the racing enthusiast.  The house is a classic country design with a large porch running the front of the house.  The house is accented with rough cedar shutters and columns that will weather over time.  The brick is weathered to look like old when it's new.  The high pitched roof and dormers house the second floor and lend to the classic country look.  The long drive to the house meanders through the trees and the landscaping was chosen for it's natural appearance. 

Sugar Grove Church of Christ looked to build a place for people to gather, fellowship together and belong.  The renovations included the addition of a Coffee Bar.  The coffee bar includes gathering spaces with tables, chairs and sofas to host small group devotionals and fellowship.  The entire area can be opened up via moveable walls to support congregational meals and fellowship events.

The cottage is a beautiful 3 bed 2 bath with aged brick and great old wood floors.   The house had good bones but needed some freshening up. We refinished every area of the house. New floors replaced the worn carpet and vinyl. All the bathroom fixtures and showers were replaced. The house received a whole new mechanical system and electrical upgrades including all lights, switches and outlets.  The kitchen was refreshed with new cabinets, limestone floors, and wood counters. The cabinets were painted a vibrant red to contrast the cool grey walls.  The kitchen was finished off with stainless appliances. 

The Russell Historic House is in the Historic Heights neighborhood. The historic district requires strict adherence to the original design for additions and renovations.  The owner wanted to add a master suite to the original 2 bed 1 bath bungalow.  In the process we expanded the guest bedroom, existing bath and added a utility room.  Original plumbing fixtures including a claw foot tub were reused to preserve the homes heritage. The master suite is modern with a large walk in closet and bathroom.  The existing hardwood floor was matched and refinished in all the rooms.  The master bath has double sinks, a large walk in shower, sleek tile and built in storage.  The exterior materials were matched and windows were reused to satisfy the historic requirements.  The back of the house expands outside via a large deck for back yard parties.

The Epic Looks Salon is a modern salon designed for 10 stylists.  It includes a washhouse and a color bar.  The staff enjoys a break room with bar area for relaxing.  The entry is positioned on a custom reception desk with leather, dark wood and diamond white solid surface.  The cabinets are by Ikea and the wood walls are walnut.  High ceilings and concrete floors add to the loft feel of the space.  Crystal chandeliers and modern furniture round out the interiors.

The church building sits on 9 acres surrounded by old oaks and large pine trees. The building program includes an auditorium, classrooms, a kitchen and fellowship areas.  The auditorium was designed to invoke the worship experience.  Lighting, colors and window locations were studied to maximize the affect on the space during the worship service.  Clouded ceilings, exposed ductwork and black furniture lend for a modern feel.  Warm wood was used in doors, trim and the communion table. Much of the sites natural grasses were preserved and select trees were left.  The new landscaping was selected for its low maintenance and durability.

The Drachenberg Residence is 3900sf with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and a large study nestled on 2 acres in the woods.  The house is open with expansive ceilings and lots of windows.  The house sits among 119 different species of trees all cataloged by the owners and carefully marked to preserve as many as possible.  The interior design is eclectic and incorporates antique appliances and furniture from the owner's childhood home.  The house was designed to embrace the nature around it.  The back of the house is full glass following the sloping ceiling of the open living area.  Wood decks and walkways lead through the trees to a gazebo for watching birds and deer. 

The Community Center is an event space that the City was looking to renew and offer as the place to go for event space.  It is flexible enough to accommodate businesses, organizations, schools, churches and families.  The vision is to support meetings, conferences, gatherings, fundraising events, parties, family reunions and even weddings.  The visioning includes renovations of the existing space by opening up the kitchen to the conference center space, an updated interior with exposed structure, polished concrete floors and new lighting.  The exterior design includes a new garden wall with gateways highlighted by cedar, lit pathways, pedestrian benches and updated landscaping.  It also incorporated modern pergolas and sitting areas overlooking a new playground for kids.

Riverside General Hospital needed to repair and expand their surgery program left damaged by hurricane Ike in 2008.  The operating rooms had not been updated in more than 30 years.  We designed a state of the art surgery expansion including 4 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms, full central sterile processing, prep and recovery suites and staff areas.

The 1522 Masterplan project includes planning for the City Hall/Community Center Campus of approximately 20 acres of land.  The campus will be welcoming and peaceful, fun and sociable and the city’s site for special events.  The masterplan presentation includes concepts for a Market Space and Food Truck Court; Amphitheater; Veterans Memorial; Shade Structures and Seating Spaces; Playing Spaces; a Skate Park; Water Feature and Splash Pad; Public Art; Lush Landscaping and Hardscaping; Jogging, Walking and Biking Trails; and a Dog Park.  The campus will be Sustainable and incorporate several green strategies.  studio M6 partnered with the City staff to present this to City Council for further development.

Life Fit Gym is a personal fitness studio that was growing and looking to move into new markets.  The gym design is clean and modern with small design touches located for big impact, such as the clear finished wood wall.  The design is open structure with simple lighting and a high velocity low speed (HVLS) fan cooling the space.  The space also includes offices, a fun kids room, a retail area and smoothie bar.

SBCHC was looking to expand into the Katy area and partnered with studio M6 again to design a clinic for them.  The clinic includes family medicine and pediatrics and will soon offer behavioral health.  The clinic is located in a building along 1st street in the historic downtown area of Katy.  The design was simple with just a few materials and colors.  The materials are wood, glass, steel and painted drywall.  A full wall of floor to ceiling glass was added to the waiting and reception area to bring in natural light.  Borrowed light through door glazing reaches deep into the clinical space.  Caregiver's work areas are located to minimize steps and movement throughout and the medical assistant staff can flex to support both providers as well as check-in and check-out duties.
